The Breeder
My name is Vanessa Gomes. I'm a breeder, a mother of four, and Guardas do Berço is my life — not my business.
It's not a figure of speech — it's how my childhood was. My grandmother bred several breeds throughout her life (she still breeds Yorkshires today), and I grew up observing, learning, realizing that dogs communicate in ways most people never learn to read.
I lived in Switzerland for about 20 years. The training I did there gave me another way of reading our dogs — more attentive, deeper, more respectful of what each animal truly is. Today I carry that blend with me: Swiss rigour and a Portuguese heart.
Passion literally took me around the world. I attended dog shows in Portugal and across Europe, observed the best specimens live — not in photos — and evaluated conformation, temperament and structure with my own eyes.
The dogs of this kennel come from the world's finest bloodlines — sought out over years, one by one, with the highest standards — all under the Guardas do Berço kennel name.
